Groundcover helps to reduce the relative moisture in greenhouses and therefore reduces the risk of the development of moisture-loving diseases (such as grey mold in tomatoes and peppers, blight and leaf mold in tomatoes, and more). Covering the ground helps to save 20-30 percent of the water and fertilizer given to the crop and prevents the sprouting of unwanted weeds.

When is it recommended to remove the additional shade net from the Cannon and Mikko pepper varieties?

The additional net is removed when the third fruit setting appears and the plant reaches a height of about 50 cm (knee height). This usually occurs between 25-35 days after planting.

Powdery mildew in peppers is affected by two main factors: (a) environmental conditions: the most important and effectual being temperatures between 15-25oC; and (b) the physiological stage of the plant: the stage at which the pepper plant begins to be susceptible to the disease is when the fruit begins to set in the third inflorescence.

The main cause of pepper seedling failure is the disease, Pythium.This disease attacks young seedlings and causes brownish moist rot in the root system, later causing the plants to die.
