A. Yes. When fruit is left too long on the vine and becomes overripe then the conditions inside the fruit may be very suitable for seed germination. Recently in Culiacan, Mexico, at the Zeraim Gedera demonstration nethouse, this phenomenon was observed. The fruit was not picked for a very long time and when some of the very red and ripe fruit was opened in mid-February seed germination was observed. Inside the fruit there was high humidity, darkness, moisture and ripe seeds – the right conditions for germination.
