How can I control iron deficiency in my greenhouse tomato and pepper crops?
|
Iron deficiency affects the growing points of plants where the youngest leaves become yellow and - in extreme deficiencies - even white. Iron deficiency is quite common especially in soils with a pH of 7 or higher. However, iron toxicity is rare. To correct the problem, foliar sprays can be used but chelated irons applied through the irrigation system generally give the most satisfactory results. The best chelate is EDDHA, which is suitable for practically all ranges of pH. The recommended application rate is 5 kg/ha and the compound should be applied on its own without any other fertilizers.
